Roadmap Roundup

Every Month we take a deep dive in to the Monthly report put out by Star Citizen and this month we receive disappointing news that has some of the community hot under the collar.

Did CIG let the community down on trying to the moon and if so what affect will have to the rest of this years plans?

Let’s dive in…

Now that we all are looking at the same thing, lets skip around and talk about the obvious items here. I am a Wave 1 Tester on the EPTU (Experimental Persistent Test Universe). If your not familiar with Star Citizen this were they test new features for upcoming patches that will be later introduced in the Live version of the Alpha game. Everyone pledge member will be eligible to participate, but it is done in Waves (1-5) as the testing platform becomes more stable.

So what makes this release a little more sensitive? Well this project has been going on since 2012 and has only seen recent developments in the past year, but not much else for the game play or the economy. Everything has been kind of …static. Ships are released but much of them missing the some or all of the functions of being useful as the game play development for them has been slow. But after returning back from their Holiday Break…CIG announced what to expect in the coming months. While they didn’t say what version of certain releases would have the long awaited updates, it was clear that mark had been set for long awaited Pyro system.

Now on to the bread and butter of this blog. So months go by, and now we are starting to get into testing as we approach the release to live on Version 3.23.0. What they have done is amazing. It addresses all the things that will change the look and feel of the game for the better. Addressing how it is testing, well its been unstable and rough, but this why we do this type of thing. However, this brings me to the announcement that kind of grinds my gears. The persistent hangers, Elevators in the Hangers, and Cargo Missions (See the Notable Changes below) would have been the addition we all could have of used right now…but that has now been changed out to a V3.23.x release. We don’t know how long that will be when we finally go live with V3.23.0, but it is currently rumored to be sometime in May or June. So now the million dollar question is how will this affect the late summer release of the Pyro system? One might start start looking to around October/November as this is suppose to introduce server meshing as well for this to go live. But looking around at it all maybe this patch, as big as it is and the massive changes that it will bring (we basically have a new game), are needed to get the everything to work together so Pyro can release this summer. On the flip side is this just another bunch of promised deliverables that will stretch long into 2025 pushing the Beta version out perhaps a couple more years. Only Chris Roberts knows what the hell is really going on at CIG.
